Lonnie Graham and John Stone, Farm Stand, 2012
Like Graham’s numerous heritage gardens, which he’s planted in Kenya, Pittsburgh, Jenkintown (Pennsylvania), Charleston and Queens, this pro-active Farm Stand (2012), commissioned especially for “Green Acres,” engages the mind, body and spirit. Its design is based on homes constructed by southern sharecroppers. By inviting itinerant curators to select and display the farm stand’s contents, museum visitors experience fresh food to nourish the body; books, photos and artifacts to enrich the mind and alternative economic systems to feed the soul.
