Georg Dietzler, "Oyster Mushroom Growing Experiment," 2002
Oyster mushrooms generate several useful by-products. In the course of decomposing dry straw, nearly 50% of the mass is liberated as carbon dioxide, 20% is lost as water, 20% remains as "spent" compost, and 10% is converted into dry mushrooms. The remaining "spent" substrate can be used to feed cattle, chickens and pigs, to build composts and new soil, and to cover garbage land fills.
